Markets sell local, seasonal foods. Expect to find summer vegetables, cut flowers, and plants at our market. Though the Vicksburg Farmers' Market is primarily a produce market, a limited number of artisan and craft vendors will participate. There will also be entertainment: activities for children, live music, and special events scheduled throughout the season.
Each farmer is a separate vendor. Bring cash, small bills preferred, because you’ll need to make payments at each stall you visit for goods. Bring a cloth shopping bag with you to help carry your purchases.
Most Vicksburg market vendors come from within an hour’s drive of the city. Many vendors are from Mississippi: Vicksburg, Bovina, Cary, Utica, and Crystal Springs. Others are from across the river, in Tallulah, Louisiana.
Click here to visit the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce to see a list of produce available throughout the year.
Shop the market every Saturday. Wednesdays, too, if you eat a lot of veggies. Tell your friends about the market. Recruit vendors for the market. And volunteer for the market. We need help on Saturdays at the market tent!
People are rediscovering the benefits of buying local food. It is fresher than anything in the supermarket and that means it is tastier and more nutritious. It is also good for your local economy--buying directly from family farmers helps them stay in business. What’s good for the farmers is good for us!
